The corner of Schummer Line and Lichty Road in Wellesley Township, known as Huber’s Corner, has a memorial for a tragedy that occurred many years ago. In September 1908, two men, Thomas Huber of Linwood and William Attig of Newton, were killed in a boiler explosion at Huber’s farm where he was building a cider mill. The September 17th issue of the Wellesley Maple Leaf and Berlin’s (Kitchener) Daily Telegraph reported in incident in greater detail. The boiler here at the memorial is apparently the same type as the one that exploded that fateful day.
