King George V

King George V took the British throne after his father Edward VII passed away in 1910. He reigned with his wife Queen Mary until his death in 1936. King George V and Queen Mary made the British monarchy popular by their dedication to the country and their attention to the people they served. Their dignity in which they carried out their duties was in sharp contrast to the preceding Edwardian age. After George V’s death, Queen Mary continued to be a great influence in both her son King George VI’s and her granddaughter Elizabeth’s lives. This stamp was issued in 1935 in celebration of their Silver Jubilee.
