Pierre Berton is an interesting author of Canadian history. The book “The Klondike” is an interesting history on the gold rush of 1898. The hype and hysteria of that time period is astonishing. Approximately 100,000 left to go to the Yukon, but only about 30-40,000 actually made it all the way. About half of those bothered to look for gold, and only 4,000 actually found any. Of those 4,000, only a few hundred found enough to call themselves rich. Of those few hundred, a mere handful managed to hang on to their fortune.
