Jean Little was the daughter of missionaries, and was born in Taiwan in 1932. Her parents moved back to Canada and settled in Guelph. She was born with scarred corneas leaving her with very limited eyesight., but early on, her father recognized that she had literary talent. She wanted to write stories where one did not need to get rid of his or her disability in order to have a happy ending, and many of her books have characters with disabilities. She ended up writing over 50 books, both children and adults. “From Anna” was published in 1972 and is a story of Anna, a visually impaired child who moved from Germany to Canada on the eve of Hitler’s rise to power in Germany. She passed away at the age of 88 in April 2020.
