Bagels

Bagels are delightful things. They have their origins in Jewish communities of Poland. There are two main styles, New York or Montreal. It is purely a personal preference, and there are probably many staunch defenders of each. It is possible to buy a bagel in pretty much any grocery store or deli, but unfortunately many mass-produced name brand products are a dismal imitation of the real thing. There are many smaller bakeries that bake a fine bagel. The city of Montreal has many such bakeries, but there are two main rivals, Fairmount and St Viateur. It is possible to buy St Viateur bagels and get them shipped pretty much anywhere in Canada or the USA. They are absolutely delicious and worth buying! Of course, homemade are hard to beat too.
